I really like the web-based chat feature built-in the mail interface like GMail, they were certainly the innovators of it and then Yahoo followed them. I've no idea about Hotmail because I don't use it. But anyways any day I would prefer these built-in mail chat clients as they would offer more security than other ones and apart from them I use Pidgin or Trillian on Windows to log into my multiple accounts from just one software.
